Over Spring Break in 2017, 16 MSU students traveled to Guatemala to volunteer their time setting up and running mobile clinics for local residents to come to. We stayed in the small village of San Pedro, Guatemala then everyday we traveled by bus to nearby villages to set up clinic. During clinic we provided check-ups and medications for individuals who do not have access to proper health care. Medical problems ranged from normal check up to more serious issues such as fatal blood sugar levels. Assisting the doctors while they spoke with and diagnosed patients gave a new insight to the medical field in another country. One day of our trip was spent visiting a local church where we helped to treat over 100 children. Additionally, we held an education day for local officials to learn CPR and First Aid to improve first responder care in San Pedro. Lastly, we spent some time taking part in fun activities like zip-lining, doing a sunrise hike, taking salsa dance lessons, and visiting the city of Antigua.
Thank you to the VAW Staff, VAW doctors, and all our friends and family who helped us have this amazing trip!
